There are many great examples of the use of modern technology to help us understand our world better. We can see exactly how this works by looking at how science has uncovered some of the secrets of the Egyptian pyramids in recent years and allowed us to see them.
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only Wonder of the Ancient World still standing and was the tallest structure built by humans for a large percentage of its 4,500 years of history. Despite being one of the oldest structures on Earth and being so extensively studied for so long, modern technology recently revealed something completely new and unexpected to us.
This discovery was made when the Scans Pyramids project used a variety of methods including infrared thermography and cosmic-ray images to build 3D simulations of the pyramids. In this way, they realized that a corridor 30 feet long was hidden in the building, close to the main entrance.
The revelation was made in the Nature journal, with the article explaining that it could help us to understand more about the purpose of various parts of the pyramids. Researchers also hope this technology can be used to find out more about the building’s secrets, with their project run by the Egyptian Tourism Ministry of Antiquities expected to carry on looking at new ways to scan it.

With over 14 million people annually visiting this tourist attraction just outside of Cairo, it’s one of the most popular destinations on the planet. Yet, there are now various ways to explore the Pyramids and the surrounding area online without leaving home.
Ancient Egypt is a popular theme in casino slots too, with titles such as Jungle Jim and the Lost Sphinx as well as Book of Atem among the games that transport us to this empire. These slots work like other games in the genre, with a random outcome on each spin, but they use Egyptian images to add to the atmosphere and give players a chance to explore some of the most famous places and objects.
The Great Pyramid of Giza has been available on Google Maps for several now, but Google rolled out new images of the Pyramids of Meroë in Sudan in 2022. This complex once housed more than 200 pyramids and was once feared lost by archaeologists. Anyone can now travel virtually to this part of the Sahara desert and enjoy an experience that mixes augmented reality with audio clips.
It’s also possible to stream documentaries such as Unknown: The Lost Pyramid and Secrets of Giza. These shows often reveal more about the technology used to locate and uncover newly-discovered treasures at the same time as giving viewers an insight into the work carried out to increase our knowledge of this culture.
These examples show us how technology is helping the experts to make new discoveries, while it’s also being used to let everyone take a closer look at the Ancient Egyptian culture in their spare time and in the way that suits them best.
